The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for parts of Western Australia, affecting the Kimberley, North Interior, and South Interior districts. The warning comes as thunderstorms develop in a moist and unstable airmass, with conditions expected to persist into the evening.
Towns likely to be impacted include Fitzroy Crossing and Halls Creek in the Kimberley, and Kiwirrkurra in the North Interior. The severe storms are forecast to bring damaging winds, heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding, and large hailstones.
BoM meteorologist Angus Hines noted that the storms could cause outback road closures due to heavy rain, large hailstones, or damaging winds. The Department of Fire and Emergency Services advises residents in the warning zones to take precautions to ensure their safety.
