A portable fan in a bedroom ignited a fire that caused extensive damage to a unit in Ballajura early Friday morning. The Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) reported that firefighters responded to the blaze on Meadowview Drive around 3:45 a.m. after neighbors spotted flames in the front bedroom.
Seven firetrucks were dispatched to the scene, and crews managed to extinguish the fire by 4:15 a.m. The fire spread from the bedroom into the roof space, causing significant damage to the unit and its roof.
DFES confirmed the fire was accidental, originating from a portable fan that caught fire. Firefighters successfully prevented the flames from spreading to adjacent units.
No injuries were reported. The unit sustained extensive damage, and authorities are reminding residents to exercise caution with electrical appliances.
