Halloween Vandalism Spree in Dumfries Prompts Community Backlash

Police in Dumfries are investigating a series of vandalism and antisocial behavior incidents that occurred on Halloween night. A group of up to 15 teenagers dressed in dark clothing is believed to be responsible for the spree, which included smashed car windows, egg throwing, and a vehicle being overturned.

The incidents began at 18:00 with fireworks set off near the Aldi store at Cuckoo Bridge. Over the next three hours, multiple vehicles were damaged, including a black Renault Clio in College Street, a red Nissan Micra in Osborne Crescent, and a red Vauxhall Corsa in the Tesco car park. A house door was kicked open in McGeoch Drive, and stones were thrown at a property in Ellisland Drive, with occupants being abused.

Inspector Claire Walker expressed disappointment at the behavior, stating, 'It is disappointing that despite all our warnings to young people to behave while out and about at Halloween we have had reports of some serious antisocial behaviour and vandalism across the town. The cost of the damage will easily run into thousands of pounds.'

Police have conducted door-to-door inquiries and confirmed that eight cars were damaged, though the number may rise. They are urging anyone with information to come forward. With Bonfire Night approaching, patrols will be increased to tackle such behavior, and offenders will be dealt with robustly.
