Volunteer firefighters in Western Australia made a heartwarming discovery while patrolling areas affected by recent bushfires. Crews from Rockingham and Wanneroo Bush Fire Brigades were mopping up near Boddington when they found two young joeys hiding under a burnt tree.
The firefighters gave the kangaroos water from a bottle and checked them for burns. After a quick assessment, the joeys were seen hopping away safely from the area.
The Department of Fire and Emergency Services WA shared the moment, stating, “It’s moments like this that quietly stay with you long after the fire is out.”
Bushfires have been active across Western Australia, with a recent blaze linked to a 19-year-old who allegedly threw a firecracker into dry grass on New Year's Eve. The fire prompted emergency warnings for Maida Vale, Forrestfield, and Kalamunda, later downgraded to a watch and act alert.
A total fire ban remains in place for large parts of the state's south west.
