Dog's Close Encounter with Tiger Shark at Perth Beach Captured on Drone

A dramatic encounter between a dog and a tiger shark at a Perth beach was captured on drone footage, showing the shark swimming into ankle-deep water and coming within centimetres of the unsuspecting pet.

The video, filmed by drone enthusiast Lexo Aveleyra and posted to Instagram, shows a groodle named Olive standing in the shallows as the tiger shark approaches. The two react quickly, with the dog darting back to the beach and the shark thrashing as it turns and swims back to deeper water.

Aveleyra described the moment as a surprise, noting that she had been following the shark for a clean shot when it turned back, likely sensing movement. She emphasized that sharks are in their natural environment and that entering the ocean is a personal choice requiring awareness.

Viewers reacted with shock, with one commenting, 'Wow that was right up to the shoreline! So unsafe,' while another called it 'a close call, but absolutely stunning footage.'

Tiger sharks are known to move into shallow coastal waters during warmer months, often hunting stingrays, fish, and turtles. The incident occurred on a 40°C summer day with storms rolling through parts of Perth.
