A 14-year-old boy is recovering in hospital after being bitten by a crocodile at Myall Beach near Cape Tribulation in far north Queensland. Paramedics were called to the scene on Saturday afternoon following reports of the attack.
The teenager sustained wounds to his leg and abdomen, according to a Queensland Ambulance Service spokesperson. After the attack, he was brought through the beach access to nearby accommodation, PKs Jungle Village.
Manager Harry Hartley said initial first aid was performed by nurses staying at the hostel and local residents. Local business owner Lawrence Mason added that the boy was then taken through his property, where the Rescue 510 helicopter landed in one of his fields.
The Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service confirmed the boy's condition remains stable. Rangers from Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS) are investigating the incident.
At least four crocodile sightings have been reported in the Cape Tribulation area in the past month, including one on Wednesday that is still under investigation. QPWS is urging the public to report any crocodile sightings to the department.
