Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor has been spotted with what appeared to be a mysterious bruise on his face while being driven in his Land Rover in the UK. In his first public outing in weeks, the former Prince Andrew had a visible purple mark that stretched from his right temple down to his cheek as he was photographed through his car window near his Marsh Farm home on the royal family’s Sandringham estate on June 4. He was accompanied by another man and a dog inside the vehicle.
It is not known how King Charles’ brother obtained the alarmingly large bruise, but a source close to Andrew told the Daily Mail that the mark is not a “cause for concern” and said there had been “no drama”. The outlet added that the source declined to disclose further details due to medical confidentiality. A separate report from The Times UK also concluded that the discolouration “is thought to be the result of a non-serious medical condition”.
The last reported public sighting of Andrew was two weeks ago during which he reportedly did not have a blemish on his face, as per Hello!. The former Duke of York, who was wearing a blue jacket over a dark pink shirt, is rarely seen in public these days. Since being named in the Jeffrey Epstein scandal, Andrew has withdrawn from public life and became even more reclusive in November 2025 when he was officially stripped of his Duke of York title by King Charles.
By January, he was evicted from his 30-room Royal Lodge in Windsor and moved to Sandringham. Andrew was further disgraced in February when he was arrested at his home on suspicion of misconduct in public office during his time as special trade envoy for the UK. Although the former royal has continuously denied any wrongdoing, he currently remains under investigation by the British police for his ties with the convicted sex offender.
Andrew’s June 4 outing comes weeks after he suffered a security scare when he was reportedly confronted by a balaclava-clad man wielding a weapon near his new home. According to The Sun, the alleged incident occurred around 7.30pm on May 6 near his Sandringham estate, while the ex-prince was out walking his dogs, believed to be his mother, the late Queen Elizabeth’s corgis. The man was said to have been sitting in his car when he saw Andrew about 45 metres away, before it was claimed the man jumped from his vehicle and charged towards the former royal.
A private security guard who was accompanying Andrew at the time is said to have forced him back inside his vehicle and they sped away while the suspect allegedly attempted to pursue the car on foot. Norfolk Police later confirmed that a man was arrested for possession of an offensive weapon close by to the Sandringham estate. According to The Telegraph, Andrew was reportedly left “shaken” by the incident and wanted his taxpayer-funded security back.
