Tonight on Farmer Wants A Wife, Miranda’s promising connection with farmer Zac took a sharp turn after she was confronted by his twin sister over claims she spoke badly about the other women.
Speaking to 7NEWS.com.au, Miranda revealed what happened after the explosive confrontation, including the emotional moment cameras didn’t show and the awkward aftermath once filming stopped.
The drama unfolds after what had been a near-perfect few days for the 21-year-old. Miranda was thrilled that her three wishes had come true — Jessica was gone, she had shared her first kiss with Zac at the country ball and secured the next solo date with the farmer.
But while the date begins with flower picking at sunset, it ends in a dramatic fallout that leaves Miranda in tears.
The Confrontation
The trouble starts while Zac and Miranda are away on their date. Back at the farm, the other women are given the chance to speak openly when Grace reveals that Miranda had spoken negatively about Maya behind her back.
“I don’t think it’s fair,” Grace said. “She said Maya was ‘desperate’ for pulling Zac aside for a chat.” She was referring to the moment Maya and Zac slipped away for some one-on-one time at the country ball, shortly after Jessica made her emotional departure.
Later, when Zac and Miranda return to the farm, she is met with a noticeably frosty reception. Miranda said she initially assumed the other women were simply feeling a little “jealous”.
“When I walked in, it was definitely such a weird vibe and I didn’t really understand because after Grace had her 24-hour date and arrived back to the farm there was such a happy, supportive energy,” Miranda said. “I just don’t think it was very fair for me to walk back in after my solo date and just made to feel completely uncomfortable.”
The tension continues into the following day when Zac introduces the women to his family and friends at the local football club. It all comes to a head when Zac’s twin sister learns about what Miranda has said and decides to confront her directly.
Miranda’s Reaction
“I actually think that whole night was really unfair,” Miranda said. “It was very frustrating and clearly made me very upset. I have come from a small town and I have dealt with being spoken about in the past like this, so to meet Zac’s sister and already having that pre-judgment, honestly, it was a terrible feeling. I felt really uncomfortable and I was quite angry that another girl had potentially affected my relationship with him. It was not very nice.”
Miranda admits the confrontation was difficult and says viewers didn’t see what happened immediately afterwards. After the exchange, she went to the bathroom and cried. While she found the situation upsetting, she also felt it was unfair she had been forced to defend herself and decided to address the issue with the other women directly.
Miranda said just as she has on the TV show, she always approaches every situation with confidence. “I think confidence goes a long way but on TV I can see how that confidence can come across in the wrong way and be villainised,” Miranda said. “So it’s kind of hard to see that but I know that it was just me being confident and sticking up for myself, so I stand by all of that.”
She said once filming wrapped, the group faced an uncomfortable journey back to the farm. It was a “very awkward” car ride but by the next morning Miranda had decided she wanted to move forward.
“I decided to be the bigger person as much as I didn’t forget about it,” Miranda said. “I was willing to forgive Maya and the girls for saying what they’d said and try and move forward, so it wouldn’t affect the rest of the experience. I’m not here to make enemies and I didn’t have that intention going in. But at the same time, I’m not going to let someone speak down of me or speak behind my back. I don’t agree with that. I’m here for farmer Zac at the end of the day, and when something needs to be said, I’m happy to say it.”
For Miranda, who is one of five siblings, family is incredibly important. But after her difficult first meeting with Zac’s twin sister, the question remains: will she get a second chance with his family? Or has the damage already been done?
Farmer Wants A Wife continues 7.00pm Sunday on Seven and 7plus.
