Wollongong City Council has cancelled an exhibition at the Wollongong Art Gallery following the arrest of artist Anthony Lister on sexual assault charges. Lister, a street artist, was refused bail at Central Local Court on Wednesday after being arrested at his Darlinghurst home on Tuesday.
Police allege Lister sexually assaulted four women on separate occasions between 2015 and 2018. It is further alleged he tattooed three lines on one of the women without her consent. Lister was charged with cause grievous bodily harm with intent, five counts of sexual intercourse without consent, and use intoxicating substance to commit indictable offence, among other charges.
The exhibition, which opened on February 29 and was scheduled to run until May 17, has been shut down along with associated events, including a Junior Art Trail and a stencil and collage workshop. The gallery's webpage promoting the exhibition has been removed.
During searches of Lister's home and industrial space in Marrickville, police seized replica pistols, knuckle dusters, prohibited drugs, and electronic equipment. Lister was also charged with firearm and drug offenses. He is due back in court on May 7.
As of 5 November 2025, Lister was found not guilty in the NSW District Court of all sexual assault charges.
