Spiderbait Adds Newcastle Show to 30-Year Tour, Seeks Local Opener

Spiderbait, set to be inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame in 2026, has added a Newcastle show to their Ivy & The Big Apples 30th anniversary tour. The band will perform at the King Street Bandroom on August 1, following a July 17 show at Shoal Bay Country Club in Port Stephens.

The tour, initially announced for capital cities, expanded after an overwhelming response. Wollongong alt-rockers Tumbleweed will support at both shows. The Newcastle date coincides with a performance by The Living End at NEX, creating a tough choice for '90s alt-rock fans.

Spiderbait is seeking a local opener for the Newcastle show, specifically a female or gender-diverse artist. In a social media post, the band said, 'We came up through local venues and local communities so want to keep supporting artists coming up now.' They invited suggestions for bassist Janet English to check out.

Ivy & The Big Apples, Spiderbait's third album, features the iconic single 'Buy Me A Pony,' which topped the Triple J Hottest 100 in 1996—the first Australian song to achieve that feat. The album also includes fan favorites 'Hot Water and Milk,' 'Calypso,' and 'Joyce's Hut.'
