Mother of Five in Coma After Hit-and-Run E-Scooter Crash

A mother of five is in a coma after a hit-and-run crash in Melbourne's western suburbs. The incident occurred shortly after midnight on Mother's Day, leaving 41-year-old Tania Kerr with critical head and spinal injuries.

Police say Kerr was riding an e-scooter on Scott Street in Melton when she was struck by a small sedan turning into Swan Street. The driver fled the scene, and police have released a CCTV image of the car they are seeking.

Kerr's partner, Kayla Grech, appealed to the driver to surrender. 'I'm very angry, very hurt, lost for words really. Especially to leave someone like that on the side of the road,' Grech told reporters outside Royal Melbourne Hospital.

Victoria Police Sergeant Emile Caggiati condemned the driver's actions, calling them 'deplorable.' He urged the driver to contact police, saying, 'Once you've realised that you've done the wrong thing, just make contact with police and we'll work through it.'

Sergeant Caggiati also warned e-scooter riders to wear helmets and use high-visibility clothing and lights at night. As of Monday morning, no arrests had been made.
