The Mandurah Hockey Club is marking a major milestone as it celebrates its 50th anniversary ahead of the 2026 season. Founded in 1976 with junior and senior teams in local competition, the club is now the oldest in the district.
Today, the club fields two women's teams, a men's side, and five junior teams. Coach Bradford Johnson, who joined the club in 1977, highlighted the family-oriented community as a key factor in its longevity.
“The culture that the club has instilled over the years has been very tightly bonded,” Johnson said. “There have been fathers and sons, mothers and daughters, playing alongside one another here for years. You don’t see that in many other clubs and I think it shows the strong family values that the club holds.”
Johnson expressed pride in being part of the club, noting its resilience. “We’re a really strong club. I’ve seen many others come and go throughout the years but we’ve managed to stick around, and I think it comes down to the people,” he said. He also praised the dedicated committee and coordinators who nurture junior players, encouraging them to stay on as seniors.
The club will kick off its season with a home game on May 2 and plans to celebrate the milestone anniversary throughout the year.
