Hollywood legend Richard Gere has publicly slammed Donald Trump in a savage rant during a speech in Norway, labeling the US President 'crazy' and a 'maniac.'
Gere's Tirade Against Trump
In a speech on Thursday in Oslo, the 76-year-old Pretty Woman star called Trump a 'maniac' who has 'dismantled almost everything that was good' about the United States. 'We're living in the darkest moment that I've experienced on this planet,' Gere told an awards ceremony for the Vaclav Havel International Prize for Creative Dissent.
'Who ever thought America could turn like this? Who ever thought that a maniac like this would be president of the United States?' Gere asked the audience of hundreds. 'First day, this guy dismantled almost everything that was good about the US government and the US people.'
Comparison to Dictatorship
Gere told the audience that he had recently visited the Nazi concentration camp in Dachau. 'We have to see the cues, this dictatorship of the monsters, how quickly it happens. We have to be vigilant.' He accused Trump of rapidly dismantling the country from the moment he re-entered the White House and laid blame on ordinary citizens who 'went to sleep,' 'didn't care,' 'didn't vote,' and 'didn't really listen.'
'We can't sit back and go, 'Ah, life is good. I'm fine. I've got food. I got money. Blah blah blah. I got my house. I got another car. I'm thinking about this. I'm okay. I know he's a bad guy, but it's okay,'' Gere said. 'But it's not OK,' he added.
Trump has yet to respond to Gere's remarks.
