The WA Day Festival is set to transform Burswood Park into a vibrant hub of celebration this weekend, offering two full days of free entertainment to honour Western Australia. With an exciting mix of high-energy concerts, family-friendly activities, and unique aerial displays, the event promises something for everyone.
Stellar Music Lineup and Night Spectacles
The festival's heart beats with a powerful music program. Saturday night will be headlined by acclaimed local hip-hop artist Drapht, sharing the stage with a diverse roster of talent including Eurovision contestants Voyager, Orchxtra featuring Lucy Durack, Ullah, Boox Kid, Smol Fish, and South Summit.
Sunday shifts gears with a nostalgic indie rock focus, featuring the highly anticipated performances of Little Birdy and Jebediah. They will be joined by Dolce Blue, Mariae Cassandra, Flewnt, and another set from Orchxtra.
Katy Steele, frontwoman of the recently reunited Little Birdy, expressed her enthusiasm for being part of the state celebration. The band has just completed a national tour marking the 21st anniversary of their debut album, 'BigBigLove'.
"We feel really happy to be involved," Steele said. "I'm hoping to reach a new audience with it being a free event, so people can bring their kids and hopefully make some new memories."
As the sun sets, the sky will light up with spectacular shows. An exclusive WA-themed drone show is scheduled for Saturday night, tipped to be a major highlight. Both nights will culminate in dazzling fireworks displays, providing a perfect finale to the free entertainment.
Thrilling Daytime Activities and Family Fun
Beyond the main stage, the festival grounds will buzz with activity from morning until evening. A dedicated family zone and community hub will host a packed schedule of attractions.
Adrenaline seekers won't want to miss the BMX stunt shows. Professional riders, including Todd Meyn and Jake Greaves, will perform jaw-dropping tricks. "They'll roll in with some speed and be doing backflips, 360s and letting go of the bike — it's pretty cool to watch," explained Brayden Davies, co-founder of Hardwired Entertainment.
The lineup of daytime entertainment is extensive, featuring:
- Carnival rides and show bags
- A thrilling mascot race
- Skydiving demonstrations
- Performances by Yirra Yaakin Theatre and Spare Parts Puppet Theatre
An innovation and education alley will engage curious minds with everything from hands-on science experiments and sustainability lessons to immersive gold rush adventures and simulated helicopter rescues.
Delicious Food and a Worthy Cause
No Australian festival is complete without great food, and this event delivers. A variety of food trucks and stalls will be on site, including popular vendors like Street Food Labs, Chips on a Stick, and KBs Creamy Creations.
In a classic Aussie tradition, Coles will host a sausage sizzle with all proceeds supporting Telethon. The initiative aims to raise an impressive $30,000 over the weekend. A snag will cost $3.50, or $5 with a bottle of water, providing an affordable meal option while contributing to a great cause. A licensed bar will also be available for adults.
The WA Day Festival is supported by BHP, the WA Government, and Lotterywest. Organisers strongly encourage patrons to use public transport to travel to and from Burswood Park for a smoother experience. For the full program and more details, visit celebratewa.com.au.
