Coles will fire up 6000 sausages at the WA Day Festival on November 22-23, aiming to raise up to $30,000 for Telethon. The sausage sizzle, a staple of the celebration, will see all proceeds go to supporting children across Western Australia.
Coles assistant State manager Jeff Stephens highlighted the importance of the event, noting that 80 volunteers from Coles stores will be manning the barbecues over the weekend. “This is one of the bigger events that we do so WA Day is a really important event for us,” he said.
The sausages will be sold at $3.50 each or $5 with a water bottle. Stephens emphasized that the initiative not only supports a great cause but also provides an affordable meal for families. “Moving the date and being a couple of great sunny days, hopefully crowds will come out and we’ll be able to achieve that $30,000 for Telethon,” he added.
Children like Abby, 13, Theo, 10, and Asha Gardiner, 6, were among those eager to taste-test ahead of the event. Abby expressed her support: “The sausage sizzle means I get to support kids and what they are going through and help them because it can be hard for them to deal with being sick every single day.”
The sausage sizzle follows Coles’ recent donation of $700,000 to Telethon during the charity’s live broadcast last month. The event is made possible with food donations from Harvey Beef, Mias Bakery, Mt. Franklin, and PMFresh.
The WA Day Festival, supported by BHP, the WA Government, and Lotterywest, will be held at Burswood Park. Patrons are encouraged to use public transport to attend.
