Sharon Stone reveals husband's reaction to health scare ended marriage
Sharon Stone: Husband's reaction ended marriage

Sharon Stone has opened up about the shocking reason her second marriage came to an end, revealing that her then-husband's reaction during a terrifying health scare was the final straw.

During an appearance on David Begnaud's podcast The Person Who Believed In Me, the Basic Instinct actress recalled discovering tumors in her breasts in the early 2000s. One of them, she said, was larger than her entire left breast. The doctor advised a bilateral mastectomy, warning that the situation was serious and that such tumors often turn out to be cancerous.

Stone, now 68, was convinced the tumors were benign. She told the doctor, "I don't have cancer," to which he replied, "You don't get to decide that." Stone insisted, "I do. I do get to decide that. I'm deciding." Ultimately, she opted for surgery, saying, "because I'm not f**king around."

However, her then-husband did not support her decision. "My husband said, 'This is ridiculous,' and got up and left the room," Stone recalled. When asked which part was ridiculous, she explained, "That I would have a bilateral [mastectomy]. He was furious." The podcast host then asked if the anger was because the cancer might kill her, to which Stone replied, "No, no." The Oscar nominee said her husband was upset about the prospect of her having both breasts removed.

The doctor intervened, telling Stone's husband, "If I had more patients like her, we'd have more women alive today. You need to sit down." Stone added, "I said, 'I make the decisions, not you.'"

Stone said her husband's reaction ultimately led to the end of their relationship. "That was the end of the marriage. That was it. He was done with me then. It was over," she claimed. "It was just over in the room. You could just tell. It was over. It was just over. He thought I was ridiculous. He thought it was foolish. He thought I was making too many decisions myself."

Although Stone did not name him directly, she was married to Phil Bronstein from 1998 to 2004. The tumors ended up being benign, and she did not require a double mastectomy. In 2021, Stone revealed that during the surgery to remove the tumors, the doctor allegedly gave her larger breast implants without her consent.

Page Six reached out to Bronstein for comment but did not immediately receive a response.
