Mis-Teeq Reunites After 22 Years with TV Performance

Popular noughties girl group Mis-Teeq reunited recently for a television performance, marking their first time on stage together in 22 years. The R&B and garage group, comprising members Alesha Dixon, Sabrina Washington, and Su-Elise Nash, had a string of hits in the early noughties, including seven consecutive top ten singles in their native UK and four top 40 hits in Australia.

Their biggest song, the 2003 Australian top 10 hit Scandalous, even broke through in America. However, shortly after that success, the group disbanded after their record company went under. Mis-Teeq's resident rapper, Alesha Dixon, forged the most successful solo career, releasing four studio albums and becoming a reality TV judge on shows like Australia's Got Talent and Britain's Got Talent. It was on the latter show that the trio made their comeback performance this week with a medley of some of their biggest hits.

The performance marked the first time the three members of the group had performed together since October 2004. They had officially announced their split in early 2005 following the news that their record label, Telstar Records, had entered bankruptcy proceedings. Media placed much of the blame for the record label's failure on former Spice Girl Victoria Beckham, who had received a huge advance to sign with the label. Her signing produced only one single before the label went under.

Mis-Teeq last month announced they would reform for a huge comeback show at London's Wembley Arena in September, to mark the 25th anniversary of the release of their debut album Lickin' on Both Sides. Early reactions to the reunion have been positive, with fans marvelling under the YouTube video of their Britain's Got Talent performance at how little the stars appear to have changed since they launched their pop careers at the start of the century. Dixon and Washington are now both 47, while Nash is 45.

“How do they all look even finer?” one fan asked. “These 3 beautiful women are age 45-47! Wow just wow older women rock,” another raved. The group's reunion comes amid a spate of revivals for girl groups of the early noughties, among them the Pussycat Dolls, who made their first televised performance in more than six years at last week's American Music Awards. The Dolls, now a three-piece, will launch a UK and European tour later this year, but their comeback plans have already hit a snag as their entire North American reunion tour was cancelled due to low ticket sales.

Closer to home, Australian girl group Bardot, birthed from the first season of the hit reality TV show Popstars, continued their reunion this weekend, performing at London's Mighty Hoopla festival. The group had earlier this year performed at the inaugural Sydney version of the festival, earning a rapturous reception for their first public performance since they split in 2002. London fans were treated to a slightly longer set from the group, who scored six Australian top 20 singles in a row between 2000 and 2002 before going their separate ways.
