Netflix has been slammed by fans after announcing that the hit animated series Devil May Cry will end with its upcoming third season. The streaming giant confirmed the show has been renewed for a third instalment, but it will be the final chapter, leaving many viewers disappointed.
Showrunner Confirms Trilogy Plan
Showrunner Adi Shankar revealed that the series was always intended to be a three-part story. He explained: "For those of you who have been paying attention to the episode names, I have been showing you the structure the entire time. This was always Dante’s Divine Comedy with guns and a red coat. Season 1 was Inferno. Season 2 was Purgatorio. Season 3 will be Paradiso."
Shankar added that the three seasons make up "The Force Edge Saga," which was designed as "a movie trilogy disguised as a television series."
Fan Reactions on Reddit
Fans took to Reddit to share their thoughts on the news. One user wrote: "Glad it’ll get a proper ending instead of being cancelled. It’s a good show, I’m a big fan of the games and went into it expecting nothing in terms of plot similarity and have been pleasantly surprised."
Another commented: "I think Season 2, while still having issues, was a big improvement to Season 1. So I’m happy it’s getting another season." Somebody else said: "Final! I didn’t see that coming." Yet another fan noted: "You know, as someone who’s never played the games I really enjoyed it." However, one user bemoaned: "THEY CANT KEEP GETTING AWAY WITH THIS."
About the Series
Devil May Cry is based on the popular Japanese video game franchise by Capcom. The fantasy action series follows demon hunter Dante as he attempts to stop a demonic invasion of Earth orchestrated by the White Rabbit, while also clashing with human soldier Mary Ann Arkham.
The first season premiered on Netflix in April last year and was praised for its high-octane scenes and production value. Just a week after its release, it was renewed for a second series, which aired last month. The show debuted on Netflix’s Global Top 10 and continues to remain on the list.
Cast and Production
The cast includes Johnny Yong Bosch as Dante, Robbie Daymond as Vergil, and Scout Taylor-Compton as Lady. With the final season on the horizon, fans are eager to see how the story concludes.
