Tomi Adeyemi's acclaimed young adult fantasy novel 'Children of Blood and Bone' is officially being adapted into a film, with the author set to co-write the screenplay and serve as a producer. The announcement was made by Fox 2000 Pictures, which acquired the rights to the book in 2017.

Details of the Adaptation

The film adaptation will be co-written by Adeyemi and playwright Jocelyn Bioh, known for her work on 'Nollywood Dreams' and 'School Girls; Or, The African Mean Girls Play'. The project is being produced by Adeyemi alongside Wyck Godfrey and Marty Bowen of Temple Hill Entertainment, the production company behind the 'Twilight' and 'The Maze Runner' franchises. No director has been attached yet.

Impact and Significance

'Children of Blood and Bone' was a publishing phenomenon, spending weeks on the New York Times bestseller list and winning the 2018 Hugo Award for Best Novel. The book is inspired by West African mythology and follows a young girl named Zélie Adebola as she fights to restore magic to her land. According to Adeyemi, the adaptation is a dream come true. 'I can't wait to bring Zélie's story to the big screen in a way that honors the culture and magic of the world I created,' she said in a statement. The film is expected to begin production in 2027.
