At the beginning of the episode, Victorian husband-and-wife team Nathan and Julia led the leaderboard with a whopping 72 points after consistently impressing judges Neale Whitaker, Julia Green and Simon Cohen.
However, things ended up taking an unexpected turn as the episode progressed. With only two points separating first and last place, the final backyard reveals ended up being the deciding factor for the winning couple.
Prize Breakdown
This year, first place won $1 million, while second took home $250,000, third walked away with $100,000 and fourth place received $50,000.
Fourth place went to Nathan and Julia, despite being the leaders at the beginning of the episode. “We couldn’t thank Adrian [Portelli] enough,” said Nathan after receiving the news. Adrian then announced that Emma and Michelle were this year’s third place recipients.
“Emma and Michelle, they’re the comeback queens,” said the millionaire. “We came on this show not knowing there would be second, third or fourth prizes so we’re absolutely stoked,” said Emma.
In the end it came down to a nail-biting finish between Mitch and Shaz and Franky and Isaac. After a tense wait, Adrian revealed that it was Mitch and Shaz that had been crowned this year’s winners.
“Can you believe you’re now millionaires?” said Adrian. “Every single emotion is just going through my body now,” said the couple’s son. “I’m just so proud of my parents. They did a really good job and I was cheering them on from the sidelines all the way.”

“We followed the advice from all the judges and we just can’t thank them enough for everything,” said a visibly emotional Mitch.
Viewer Reactions
Fans were tweeting throughout the episode, with some criticising the judging during the final episode of the series. “Absolutely how rigged the judge is voting is on My Reno Rules is actually ridiculous. Both backyards had identical features,” tweeted one enraged viewer. A second agreed, commenting: “The scoring on my Reno rules is so s**t.”
Another insisted that it should have been Julia and Nathan that were crowned the winners, tweeting: “House two you cook on the deck and all the smoke goes inside poor design decision and why would the sauna be so far away from the pool? You go straight from the sauna into a cold plunge pool for health benefit again poor design you judges have rigged the whole competition.”
Giveaway Segment
Elsewhere during the episode, Adrian Portelli was in charge of the giveaway, where viewers had the chance to choose between one of the houses, or $2 million of tax-free cash.
During the first giveaway, the wheel was spun, and Nathan B was pulled out of the draw. Initially it seemed like he might miss out on the prize as he wasn’t picking up and the rules stated that after three minutes of no response there would be a redraw. However, Portelli kept ringing and with less than a minute to spare he eventually picked up the call. Hilariously, he was initially confused because he wasn’t actually watching the show’s finale and so was confused as to why the millionaire was giving him a ring. In the end, the 42-year-old sales rep from NSW ended up choosing to take home the cash.
