Hollywood heartthrob Jason Momoa has surprised fans with a new role that marks a slight career pivot into children's entertainment. The 46-year-old Aquaman star has officially signed on as LEGO's new Playmaker, tasked with reversing the 'play deficit' in families around the world.
A Playful Pitch to the LEGO Board
In a fun clip shared by the toy manufacturer, Momoa is seen dressed as a playful child with pigtails, delivering a heartfelt pitch to the LEGO board. 'You might be asking yourself, what's so good about play? It unlocks the 5 P's: Resilience, Collaboration, Problem Solving, Confidence, and Creativity,' he tells the board of block people, who appear as confused as viewers about how the 5 P's relate to those words.
World Play Day and the Play Deficit
The collaboration comes ahead of World Play Day on June 11th, at a time when 90% of parents wish they could play more as a family but are hindered by work, screen time, and household chores. Momoa hopes to encourage parents to spend more time playing with their children, cherishing those moments from his own childhood and with his own kids.
'Play has always been a big part of my life. My mum encouraged me to get outside, use my imagination, build things with my hands, make cool LEGO builds, be creative, make music, climb, explore, and just be curious about the world. That shaped who I am,' Momoa said in a statement.
'Whether I'm with my kids, making movies or jamming with my band, these simple moments of play keep me creative, grounded and connected to the people I love. Even a few minutes of play can completely shift your day. I think it's important that kids and families today get the same encouragement to find any opportunity to play and spark moments of imagination, creativity and connection.'
Family and Fan Reactions
Momoa shares two biological children with ex-wife Lisa Bonet: daughter Lola, 18, and son Nakoa-Wolf, 17. He was also stepfather to Bonet's daughter, Zoe Kravitz. When Momoa announced his new role on Instagram, fans were thrilled. 'You're full of fun!' one fan commented. 'I love this,' wrote another, and a third said they 'laughed out loud at the five P's.'
LEGO Brick Brigade
In celebration of World Play Day on June 11, LEGO Australia has unveiled the LEGO Brick Brigade, a dedicated initiative touring iconic landmarks from Sydney's Overseas Passenger Terminal to regional hubs like Gundagai's The Big Koala, reminding families to 'never stop playing.'
