The newsagency owner, Amanda Fraser, expressed excitement over the win, noting it is the third division one prize sold at the kiosk in five years. 'We're such a small town and it's so exciting for us to have so many wins,' she said. 'We have no idea who it could be, but it's always extra special when it's a local.'
A Lotterywest spokesperson confirmed the winner, described as a 'WA player,' claimed her prize earlier this week. The winner reportedly said she was looking forward to sharing her winnings with her family, who will be together for Christmas for the first time in years.
The farming town of Northampton is known for producing AFL talent such as Josh Kennedy and Patrick Cripps, and now counts a millionaire among its residents.
