Michelin Guide to Launch in South Australia, a First for Australia

The Michelin Guide, the prestigious restaurant rating system founded by a French tire company over a century ago, is set to launch in Australia for the first time. South Australia will be the first state to have its restaurants evaluated and included in the guide.

The guide was originally created in France to encourage motorists to travel further in search of fine dining, thereby increasing tire usage. Now, anonymous Michelin inspectors are reportedly already dining at some of Adelaide's top restaurants to assess their quality.

The announcement has been welcomed by local industry figures, including Adelaide-based chef Duncan Welgemoed, food festival organizer Emily Bourke, and representatives from tourism and hospitality sectors. South Australia's Tourism Minister and other officials have expressed optimism about the guide's potential to boost the state's culinary reputation.
