Burst Water Main Floods Perth Causeway, Traffic Chaos

A burst water main from a leaking fire hydrant has caused an early-morning headache for commuters heading into Perth city. Floods of water spewing onto the city-bound entry of the Causeway in East Perth have shut down a lane of traffic.

Incident Details

Crews are on the scene directing traffic following the rupture. Traffic cameras captured dramatic flooding and a spurt of water shooting into the air. Main Roads issued an alert to the public at about 6am, warning of excess water on the road. Drivers were told to approach the area with caution.

Repairs and Timeline

Water Corp told PerthNow that the repairs should be complete by midday. “In the interim, traffic management is in place and one of the northbound lanes will need to be closed for the safety of our crews,” a spokesperson said. Motorists are advised to expect delays and consider alternative routes until the repair work is finished.
