Perth's northern suburbs are finally getting their first Guzman y Gomez restaurant with a drive-thru, as the Mexican chain prepares to open in Wanneroo on Tuesday.
Grand Opening Celebration
To mark the occasion, the store is hosting a grand opening event on Tuesday featuring $5 burritos and bowls, free coffee, merchandise giveaways, and live mariachi band entertainment.
Location and Development
Built on Wanneroo Road near Noonan Drive, the new restaurant sits adjacent to a KFC currently under construction. Valued at $2.1 million, the development was approved by State planners last August and is said to have created about 75 local jobs so far.
The 230-square-metre fast-food outlet includes 26 on-site car parking bays and occupies a site that once housed a gym, pet store, and massage parlour.
Local Leadership
The store is being led by young parents Rhys and Lucy, Perth locals who have recently returned home to run the outlet after spending several years interstate.
"Opening GYG Wanneroo is the beginning of an exciting new chapter for our family," Rhys and Lucy said. "We chose GYG because of the food, the values, and the culture. It's a brand we genuinely believe in. To be doing this back home in Perth, in a community that's growing so fast, feels exactly right."
Expansion in Perth
Wanneroo's Guzman y Gomez will be the chain's most northern location in Perth for now, with the closest outlet at Westfield Whitford City. Another is planned for Alkimos as part of an $8 million development approved last November.
The restaurant is the chain's 17th to open in Western Australia since its 2013 state debut, and it joins a network of more than 270 locations across Australia, Singapore, and Japan.
The grand opening celebrations will be held on Tuesday, 16 June, from 7am to 10pm.
