Coles has launched a new butter chicken flavour for its popular hot roast chicken, offering a twist on the beloved "bachelor's handbag" for a limited time. The new product combines the rich and aromatic spices of butter chicken with the convenience of a ready-to-eat roast chicken.
New Flavour Hits Shelves Amid Cost-of-Living Crisis
The Butter Chicken Hot Roast Chook is now available at Coles stores across Australia while stocks last, priced at $14 each. The launch comes as three in five Australians are cutting back on eating out and takeaway, with more than half choosing to cook meals at home, according to Coles data.
"Our hot roast chicken is Coles' second highest-selling product, affectionately known by many Aussies as the 'bachelor's handbag', so we're excited to offer customers a delicious new way to enjoy it," said Karen O'Connor, Coles general manager of meat, deli and seafood.
Convenience and Value for Busy Weeknights
O'Connor added, "We know customers love the rich, comforting flavours of butter chicken, so we wanted to bring those familiar flavours to our iconic hot roast chicken in a way that's quick, convenient and offers value for busy weeknight meals. At $14 each, it's an easy and affordable way to enjoy a takeaway-inspired meal at home, without compromising on flavour."
The hot roast chicken has long been a staple for Australians on lazy nights, often sparking competition in shopping aisles as the last chicken becomes a prized item. The new flavour is expected to intensify demand.
Coles' move comes as the cost-of-living crisis continues to impact household budgets, with many consumers seeking affordable meal options. The butter chicken flavour adds variety to the versatile trolley staple, which is the supermarket's second highest-selling product.
