A restored homestead on 100 acres in the Hunter Valley has hit the market after a seven-year restoration project. Glenrock, located at 351 The Inlet Road in Bulga, is listed for $1.8 million with Ross Wilkinson at Ray White Singleton.
Hunter Valley couple Christine and Andrew Farr purchased the property, which adjoins Wollemi National Park, in 2017. Rather than demolish the rundown home, Ms Farr led an adaptive reuse project to restore the historic cottage with modern touches.
Glenrock was featured in early 1900s publications as 'one of the prettiest spots of the Bulga district'. The property includes original features such as timber footings cut by convicts and remnants of citrus orchards that once supplied Singleton and surrounding areas.
The restoration faced challenges including trade delays, cash flow issues, COVID-19, and flooding that damaged the access road. Inside, the home features a luxury bathroom with a freestanding bathtub and Catherine Martin wallpaper, a combustion wood heater, and air-conditioning. Original elements include a turret on the rooftop and a wood-fired cooker in the kitchen.
The property has a wraparound verandah, two bedrooms, one bathroom, living and dining rooms, a kitchen, and a laundry. Outside, there is a covered entertaining area with views of the national park and a rustic machinery shed built at the same time as the homestead.
Zoe Gill from Ray White Singleton said the listing has attracted interest from buyers seeking a weekender or Airbnb, noting its proximity to vineyards and accessibility to Sydney and Newcastle. Concept plans for further development are also available.
