The South Australian government is delivering on its election promise by doubling the cost-of-living concession payment, providing a one-off cash boost to thousands of residents. Owner-occupiers will receive $449, while tenants are eligible for $224.60.
Social Services Minister Nat Cook announced that $78 million has already been deposited into the accounts of those most in need. She highlighted the impact of rising inflation, interest rates, and essential costs such as petrol and medical bills on low-income households.
Eligibility extends to certain concession card holders, including pensioners and veterans, as well as recipients of Centrelink payments. Low-income earners may also qualify, with income thresholds set at $20,610.20 for singles, $21,866 for single parents, and $38,235.60 for couples, based on circumstances as of July 1, 2022.
Existing recipients need not reapply if their circumstances remain unchanged. New applicants must apply by December 31, 2022, providing their Centrelink or DVA reference number or tax assessment, along with banking details. Payments are made electronically, with tenant payments brought forward to this month.
