Two men had a close call on Thursday afternoon when their light plane crash-landed at Jandakot Airport in Perth. The pair, both in their 30s, were aboard an amateur-built ADI Stallion when the incident occurred just before 4pm.
The pilot reported electrical issues to air traffic control before landing. Upon touchdown, the aircraft's nosewheel collapsed, causing the plane to come to rest nose-down on the turf beside the runway. Firefighters were called but neither occupant was injured.
The Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) has launched an investigation. “Emergency services were activated and on landing the aircraft’s nosewheel collapsed,” an ATSB spokesperson said. “The ATSB is gathering further information as to the circumstances of the incident.”
Jandakot Airport is one of Australia's busiest airfields and largest aviation training bases, with over 200,000 aircraft movements annually. The crash comes just months after a fatal accident at the facility in April 2024, which claimed the life of a pilot.
