Winter is officially here, with Perth residents awaking to near-freezing temperatures across the city on Tuesday morning.
Chilly Start to the Day
Across the metropolitan area, the mercury has dropped to the low single digits. Residents near the Gingin Airport have been hit with the chilliest temperatures near the city, with temperatures reaching a low of 0.3C at 6.20am. Locals near the Wheatbelt town felt even colder due to wind gusts, which left the aviation hub feeling closer to -0.5C.
Despite the town of Dwellingup only reaching a low of 1.3C on Tuesday morning, residents faced the coldest chill in the region, with wind causing the temperature to feel like -2.4C. Closer to the CBD, residents faced chattering teeth and goosebumps as temperatures remained low.
Temperature Details Across Perth
- Swan Valley: Temperatures hit a low of 1.3C, with the Millendon weather station reporting the cold mercury felt like -0.6C.
- Perth Airport: In the city's east, temperatures only reached 1.4C as of 6.30am on Tuesday.
- Pearce: Remained the coldest suburb in the city, with a Bureau weather station recording a freezing 0.5C start to the day.
- Garden Island: Residents near the naval base were blessed with the warmest morning temperatures across the metropolitan area, but it only reached a high of 10.3C.
Outlook for the Day
The freezing temperatures come ahead of a partly cloudy day, with weather experts predicting the mercury to soar to a toastier 16C by mid-afternoon. A severe storm warning for WA has been cancelled as the cold snap settles over the region.
