Rose Strike Sets Jets Club Record With Fourth Straight Away Win

The Newcastle Jets have set a new club record by winning four consecutive away games in the A-League Men's competition. The milestone was achieved with a 1-0 victory over Melbourne City at AAMI Park on Sunday, January 11.

Lachlan Rose scored the only goal of the match in the 67th minute, capitalizing on a defensive error from City's German Ferreyra. The striker now leads the Golden Boot race with six goals this season, three of which have come in his last two appearances.

The result lifts the Jets back into the top six with 18 points, having collected double the points from away fixtures compared to home games at McDonald Jones Stadium. It continues a strong run of four wins in five matches, reversing a previous stretch of one win in five.

Jets coach Mark Milligan praised his squad's resilience, especially after a challenging week that saw Alex Badolato, Christian Bracco, and Oscar Fryer ruled out with ACL injuries. 'The buy in from this group from day one has been fantastic,' Milligan said. 'Results like today are a little reward for their belief.'

Milligan highlighted the team's defensive mentality as a key factor, noting that the experience of playing with 10 men in a previous match against Auckland helped build character. 'Defending is as much a mentality thing as it is technique,' he said.

Man-of-the-match Rose expressed satisfaction with his goal, acknowledging the save from City goalkeeper Patrick Beach earlier in the game. 'I was stoked with it to be honest,' Rose told Paramount Plus. 'As a striker, that's my job.'
