Newcastle Jets are anticipating a season-best crowd of at least 15,000 for Sunday's A-League Men's match against Macarthur at McDonald Jones Stadium, as teenagers Alex Nunes and veteran Kota Mizunuma celebrate their birthdays. Pre-sale tickets have already surpassed the 12,162 attendance from the last home game on January 31, which was the biggest in Newcastle since the 2017-2018 grand final.
The Jets are on a club-record seven-match winning streak, sitting four points clear at the top of the ladder. They have scored 20 goals during this run, including at least three in each of the last four games, while conceding seven. Their most recent loss was against Macarthur on Boxing Day, a 5-4 defeat at home.
Nunes, a 19-year-old academy product, has made five substitute appearances this season, totaling 39 minutes. He recalled being in the crowd during the Jets' 2018 finals run and said playing in front of a full stadium would be a dream come true. Mizunuma, 36, joined the club midway through last season and has been a mentor to Nunes, who described him as the ultimate professional.
Pre-game entertainment will be provided by Australian singer Shannon Noll from 5:30pm, with kick-off scheduled for 6pm.
