A 34-year-old woman has been charged with manslaughter following a fatal crash in Ellenbrook, Perth, that claimed the life of her passenger. The accused allegedly crashed her red MG into a vehicle towing a horse float at the intersection of Main Street and The Promenade around 9:15am on May 12.

Details of the crash

According to WA Police, the collision involved a red MG driven by the accused and a grey Ford Ranger towing a horse float. The 36-year-old male passenger in the MG sustained critical injuries and was rushed to Royal Perth Hospital, where he later died.

Charges laid

The woman, an Ellenbrook resident, faces multiple charges including manslaughter, dangerous driving causing bodily harm, driving with a suspended licence, and driving with prescribed illicit drugs in her system. She appeared in court on Tuesday and is scheduled to appear before a magistrate again on July 29.

Other injuries and aftermath

Former WA jockey turned trainer Renee Forrest was also seriously injured in the crash while towing her horse float through the intersection in Perth’s north. Fortunately, the two racehorses travelling in the float were unharmed.
