Shocked shoppers have captured the moment a woman allegedly lit several fires inside a Woolworths in Melbourne. Emergency services were called to the High Street store in Epping at approximately 6:15 PM on Sunday after staff reported multiple fires being started in different aisles. Footage taken by a witness shows flames rising to the ceiling of the supermarket as a group of workers and shoppers watch from outside.
Incident Details
A woman left the store but was stopped by security a short time later and held until police arrived. The 25-year-old woman from Roxburgh Park was arrested and taken to hospital under police guard for treatment unrelated to the incident. She is expected to be interviewed once released.
Emergency Response
Fire Rescue Victoria confirmed crews were dispatched after a fire indicator panel activated at 6:21 PM. “Firefighters arrived on scene in five minutes to find two small fires inside a shopping precinct and worked quickly to extinguish the flames. Crews worked to make the scene safe, with the incident deemed under control at 6:39 PM,” an FRV spokesperson said. “The incident was handed over to Victoria Police for suspicious circumstances.”
