Police in Birmingham are investigating a shooting that left a 17-year-old boy injured outside a mosque on Wednesday evening. The incident occurred at approximately 7:30 PM local time near the Al-Mahdi Centre on Coventry Road, Small Heath.

Details of the Incident

West Midlands Police said the teenager was shot in the leg and was taken to hospital for treatment. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening. Officers were called to the scene after reports of gunfire. The area was cordoned off as forensic examinations were carried out.

Detective Inspector Tim Robinson stated, “We are in the early stages of our investigation, but we do not believe this to be a terror-related incident. We are keeping an open mind regarding the motive.”

The shooting has shocked the local community. Imam Mohammed Ali of the Al-Mahdi Centre said, “Our thoughts are with the young man and his family. We are cooperating fully with the police and urge anyone with information to come forward.”

Local MP Tahir Ali expressed concern, saying, “This is a worrying incident. We must ensure our communities remain safe and that such violence is not tolerated.”

Police are appealing for witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage from the area at the time to contact them. No arrests have been made so far. Extra patrols have been deployed in the area to reassure residents.
