Teen charged after bakery owner allegedly attacked

A teenage boy has been charged following a violent confrontation outside a bakery in Logan, which left the owner hospitalised with a broken leg. The incident occurred at Rainbow Bakery in Yarrabilba on June 6, sparking concerns among local traders about youth crime in the area.

Charges laid after investigation

Detectives from the Logan Child Protection and Investigation Unit have charged a 16-year-old Yarrabilba boy following investigations. Police allege that a group of four youths attended the bakery on Yarrabilba Drive around 7:35pm and began causing a disturbance outside the business. One of the youths allegedly threw a bottle at the bakery, damaging the shopfront.

CCTV footage captured the moment a teenager appeared to fly-kick the front door of Rainbow Bakery before the confrontation escalated. The owner, Long Kry, ran outside after the group allegedly targeted his bakery. A short time later, an altercation occurred between the group and Kry near the entrance.

Serious injury sustained

Police say the 16-year-old threw a rock at Kry, causing a serious leg injury. Kry suffered a fractured leg and was taken to hospital for treatment. He previously told 7NEWS that a group of teenagers had been taunting him before the situation escalated. Mobile phone footage captured Kry confronting the group and asking them to leave before retreating inside as bottles were allegedly thrown at the bakery.

“One of them threw something at me,” Kry said. “It hit my leg ... and I fell to the ground.” The father-of-two said the incident had left his family facing an uncertain future as he recovered from his injuries and was unable to work.

Legal proceedings

Detectives arrested the 16-year-old boy on Thursday, nearly a week after the alleged attack. He was dealt with under the provisions of the Youth Justice Act and charged with one count each of grievous bodily harm, attempted enter premises with intent to commit an indictable offence, and wilful damage. Investigations remain ongoing.
