Pathologist Arrested After 32 Baby Bodies Found in Backyard

A 57-year-old pathologist has been arrested after construction workers unearthed the bodies of more than 30 babies on a property in Poland. The discovery occurred during earthworks in the southeastern village of Lutoryż, where workers found what was initially described as 'medical waste.' Prosecutors later confirmed that the remains were those of 32 fetuses, according to Polish media outlet TVP World.

Arrest in Zamość

The former owner of the property, identified as 'Magdalena H,' was taken into custody in Zamość, a city approximately 2.5 hours away from Lutoryż. Authorities believe she told police that she conducted 'medical research' on the babies' bodies after removing them from a hospital during the COVID-19 pandemic. She allegedly transferred the remains into sacks and buried them on the property.

Evidence Found on Site

Police also discovered other medical equipment at the location, including microscope slides, tubes, containers, and documents believed to be hospital records. Police prosecutor Krzysztof Ciechanowski stated, 'As established so far, these items were found during earthworks on the property. Among the waste there was also a human fetus and other remains that could constitute human fetuses in an early stage of development or their fragments.'

Investigation Ongoing

Local media reports indicate that while Magdalena H is the only person arrested so far, prosecutors suspect there may be additional burial sites. Police are also investigating whether other individuals were involved in the case. The pathologist is expected to face charges related to the desecration of human remains and the illegal disposal of hazardous or medical waste. If convicted, she could face up to 12 years in prison, according to TVP World.
