Funding Secured for Pat O'Hara Carpark
The City of Bayswater has been awarded $20,343 through the State Government's CCTV funding program to install enhanced security measures at the Pat O'Hara carpark in Morley, a location identified as a hot spot for antisocial behaviour. The funding will cover the installation of both CCTV cameras and number plate recognition cameras, with footage accessible to both the city and WA Police once operational.
Location Selection Process
The city nominated five locations after consulting with WA Police, and the State Government selected the Pat O'Hara carpark due to a lack of existing CCTV and passive surveillance, along with ongoing reports of antisocial behaviour. Other suggested locations included the Bayswater train station precinct on Whatley Crescent, Hamilton Street in Bayswater, the Bayswater Waves carpark, and Russell Street in Morley.
Mayor's Statement on Safety Improvement
Bayswater mayor Filomena Piffaretti said the project would improve safety for people using the area. “This technology will help improve visibility and community safety in the area, and support a co-ordinated response between the city’s community safety team and WA Police Force to reduce anti-social behaviour,” she said. “The project forms part of the city’s ongoing commitment to creating safer public spaces for the local community.”
State Government Initiative
The State Government invited local governments to apply for a share of $1 million in CCTV funding, with 35 local governments taking advantage of the opportunity. The project at Pat O'Hara carpark is expected to be completed by January 2027.
