Chilling CCTV footage reveals brazen daylight shooting in Craigieburn
Police have released alarming video footage showing the moment a masked gunman stepped out of a black Land Rover and fired multiple shots at a suburban home in Craigieburn, Victoria, in broad daylight. The incident occurred on October 24 last year just before 1pm on Elmwood Place.
The footage, obtained by Victoria Police, captures a person dressed entirely in black exiting the vehicle and discharging what appears to be a handgun. The individual aimed towards the front of the house and fired three shots before quickly returning to the vehicle and fleeing the scene in a southerly direction. Fortunately, no one was home at the time of the attack.
Police have described the offender as a male wearing a black hooded jumper, a black face mask or balaclava, black tracksuit pants with a grey waistband, and black shoes with white soles. Investigators believe the incident was targeted and are appealing for public assistance to identify the suspect.
This brazen attack comes amid a surge in crime across Victoria, with offences increasing by almost 26 per cent over the past two years, equating to approximately 360 extra crimes per day. Record youth offending has also prompted the state government to implement policy changes, including banning machetes and reinstating charges for breaches of bail.
