A man has died after being electrocuted when his scissor lift struck power lines in Melbourne’s west, prompting a WorkSafe investigation into the workplace tragedy.

Emergency services were called to Geelong Road in Laverton North around 2pm on Monday, where the 55-year-old worker was found deceased. He has not yet been formally identified.

Colleagues of the man were left devastated following the incident, with footage obtained by 7News showing them comforting each other at the scene.

Investigation underway

Victoria Police confirmed that WorkSafe has been notified and is investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident. Police are preparing a report for the coroner and do not consider the death suspicious.

A Victoria Police spokesperson said: “WorkSafe has been notified of the incident and will conduct a thorough investigation.”
