A 22-year-old man has been charged with murder and torture following the death of a four-month-old boy in Bundaberg, Queensland, more than two years after the incident occurred.

Incident Details

The baby was taken by ambulance from a home on Electra Street in Bundaberg West to a local hospital on February 24, 2024. Hospital staff noticed suspicious injuries and alerted police. The infant was then airlifted to Queensland Children's Hospital, where he died a week later.

At the time, Detective Acting Inspector Wade Lee said, “There are a number of issues around the injuries to that child that aren’t explained. This is a particularly delicate and sad incident.”

Charges Laid

Queensland Police have now alleged the baby suffered unsurvivable injuries while being tortured. The 22-year-old man, who was living in Bundaberg West at the time of the alleged killing, was residing in Kalkie when arrested on Sunday. He has been charged with torture (domestic violence) and murder (domestic violence).

Court Appearance

The man is expected to appear before Bundaberg Magistrates Court on Monday. Police have not released further details about the relationship between the accused and the child.
