Boys on scooter robbed by machete-wielding passenger
Two young teens had their e-scooter stolen at knifepoint in Queensland on Saturday. The 13-year-old boys noticed a car following them as they rode together on a single scooter along Tapiolas Ave at Kirwan about 3pm on Saturday. An unknown person in the front passenger seat produced a machete through the window and threatened the two boys, according to Queensland Police. The boys tried to flee but were followed onto Granados St, where a person got out of the car, threatened them further, and stole the e-scooter. The young riders were not injured in the ambush. Police are now looking for a silver Toyota Kluger with the licence plate number 113KEQ. Anyone who saw the car in the area on Saturday afternoon is urged to contact police.
Teens hospitalised after bat and knife attack
A violent fight has left two teenagers injured in Adelaide's northern suburbs. Two 18-year-old men were hospitalised after a disturbance between a group of males on University Blvd at Mawson Lakes about 11pm on Saturday. One of the teens was stabbed in the back, and the other was assaulted with a baseball bat. Their injuries are not considered life-threatening at this time, said SA Police. It is early in the investigation, however police do not believe this was a random incident.
Alleged offender nabbed during Maccas run
The alleged speeding driver of a stolen car has been arrested after pulling into a Melbourne McDonald's. He was clocked driving at alleged speeds of 150km/h, and police followed him to a service station on Morris Rd at Truganina about 9.30pm on Friday. But the car, stolen from Mitcham last month, sped off before police could intercept it, Victoria Police allege. The car stopped at McDonald's on Fitzgerald Rd at Laverton North a short time later, and the alleged driver got out and went into the fast-food restaurant. Police moved in and arrested the alleged driver, a 23-year-old Tarneit man, and the alleged passenger, a 27-year-old Thornhill man. The alleged driver was charged with handle stolen goods, reckless conduct endangering life, drive manner dangerous, and other driving offences. He was remanded to face court at a later date. The alleged passenger was charged with theft of a motor vehicle and handle stolen goods. He was bailed to face court on 25 June.
Off-duty cop allegedly bashed in Melbourne
A cop was allegedly bashed shortly after knocking off work in Melbourne on Friday. The 32-year-old was walking south along Whiteman Street after finishing his shift when three unknown boys approached him, Victoria Police said on Monday. The boys are accused of being verbally abusive before punching and kicking the off-duty officer in a physical assault. They fled, and the victim was found by patrolling police shortly after calling Triple-0. He was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics. Police executed weekend search warrants in Merri-bek and Hume and arrested two boys. The search continues for the third boy allegedly involved. A 14-year-old Merri-bek boy was charged with intentionally cause injury, recklessly cause injury, common law assault, assault in company, possess prohibited weapon without excuse, and possess drug of dependence. He was bailed to appear at a children's court at a later date. A 15-year-old Hume boy has been charged with intentionally cause injury, reckless cause injury, common law assault, assault in company. He has already appeared before the weekend online remand court, where he was remanded in custody.
Motorbike rider fighting for life after crash with kangaroo
A motorbike rider is fighting for life in Queensland's rural Bundaberg region. The man in his 50s crashed into a kangaroo on Butchers Rd at South Isis about 6pm on Sunday. He suffered serious leg injuries in the crash. The rider was taken to Bundaberg Hospital in a potentially life-threatening condition, Queensland Ambulance Service said.
Young man fighting for life after fall in Manly
A young man has been hospitalised after falling on rocks in Brisbane's bayside. The 20-year-old fell off rocks on Trafalgar St at Manly about 6.15pm on Sunday, Queensland Ambulance Service said on Monday. He suffered head injuries and was taken to Princess Alexandra Hospital in a potentially life-threatening condition.
Elderly woman injured as allegedly drunk driver hits home
A driver allegedly four times over the limit has smashed into a home in Ballarat. The local man reversed and crashed into a property on Albert St at Sebastool about 3.15pm on Saturday. The driver, a 63-year-old Sebastopol man, had already had his license suspended and got behind the wheel, Victoria Police said. He allegedly returned a reading of 0.215. He suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the crash, as did the 79-year-old woman inside the home he smashed into. She was taken to hospital as a precaution. The man is expected to be charged on summons with drink driving offences.
Pedestrian struck by car in Hunter region dies
A pedestrian was hit by a car in the Hunter region of NSW on Sunday. A black sedan hit the 45-year-old woman on Wyee Rd, near Bethshan St, in Wyee about 7pm. Paramedics treated the woman, but she could not be saved. The woman is yet to be formally identified. The driver, a woman in her 40s, was taken to Wyong Hospital for mandatory testing. Wyee Road, between Bethshan St and Ruttleys Rd, was closed by emergency services but has since reopened, according to Live Traffic NSW.
Fire rips through Queensland childcare centre
A blaze has destroyed a child care centre south of Brisbane. The fire destroyed Treehouse Early Learning Centre on Juers St about 1am on Monday. No one was injured during the incident. Parents and carers of children who attend the early learning centre are advised that it will be closed for business, Queensland Police said.
E-bike rider killed in crash near Bondi Junction
An e-bike rider has died after losing control of the bike in Sydney's east. The 60-year-old man suffered critical facial injuries when he fell off the bike at the intersection of Newland St and Birrell St at Queens Park about 6pm on Sunday. He was taken to St Vincent's Hospital, where he later died. Investigations into the crash are ongoing, and the e-bike has been seized for forensic examination. A report will be prepared for the coroner.
