The incident occurred about midday on Saturday while the victim was travelling through roadworks on the Melton Highway, between Banchory Avenue and Calder Park Drive, in Sydenham. Police allege another vehicle slammed into the back of his car several times.

Once clear of the roadworks, the shaken driver pulled over, and the alleged offender did the same. According to police, the man then got out of his vehicle armed with a golf club and allegedly struck the victim in the leg and smashed his windscreen before driving off.
