A 30-year-old man has been charged with stealing an $800 electric scooter after allegedly breaking into a home in Canberra, with police identifying him through a fingerprint left at the scene.
The Moncrieff man is accused of breaking into a house in Bonner on June 1 at approximately 1:30pm and stealing the e-scooter. ACT Policing and Australian Federal Police Forensics matched a fingerprint found at the scene to the suspect.
Police located the man early Sunday morning at 1:30am during a routine traffic stop, finding him lying in the back seat of a white Subaru Outback.
“Following a search of the man and his backpack, police located items including a knife, black gloves, a torch and scissors,” they said. “After confirming the man’s identity, it was revealed he was the alleged offender identified from the fingerprint at the burglary in Bonner.”
The clothing the man was wearing also allegedly matched the clothing of the offender involved in the burglary, according to police.
The man was arrested and taken to the ACT Watch House. He has been charged with burglary and theft and is expected to face the ACT Magistrates Court on Monday, June 8.
