Concrete Slabs Crash on Adelaide Motorway, Three Injured

Three people and a truck driver have avoided serious injury after a truck’s load snapped free on a busy South Australian motorway, sending massive concrete slabs crashing into parked cars. Other drivers also managed to dodge debris during the terrifying ordeal on the North–South Motorway at Bolivar in Adelaide’s north.

Incident Details

The incident unfolded just after 10:30am on Friday when traffic merged in front of a southbound truck carrying concrete segments. The load shifted, and two 15‑tonne slabs tumbled off the trailer and smashed into three cars pulled over on the motorway’s shoulder. Two pedestrians standing beside a broken‑down vehicle were hit when the parked cars were shoved into them. One was taken to hospital with a suspected broken arm, while two others suffered minor injuries.

Aftermath and Investigation

All damaged vehicles were towed and a crane was brought in to remove the fallen slabs. Heavy Vehicle Enforcement officers examined the scene, and investigations are continuing. Police said the near‑miss should serve as a wake‑up call for all road users, warning that “everyone has a role in keeping South Australian roads safe.” They urged motorists to give trucks the room they need, adding: “Heavy vehicles require extra space and stopping distance”, and reminded drivers transporting loads to make sure “everything is properly secured before you set off.”
