A tragic house fire in Melbourne's southwest has claimed the life of a child and left a man hospitalized with serious injuries. Emergency services were called to a property on Newbury Street in Werribee shortly after midnight on Monday.
Firefighters Battle Blaze
When fire crews arrived, the single-storey brick home was completely engulfed in flames. Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) confirmed that a child died at the scene, while a male resident suffered serious injuries and was transported to hospital for treatment.
Approximately 40 firefighters worked to bring the blaze under control, achieving containment by 1:13 am. An FRV spokesperson stated that peer support and counseling would be made available to first responders who attended the incident.
Investigation Underway
