A bizarre incident unfolded in the early hours of Wednesday morning when a hire car crashed into Sydney's iconic Hyde Park fountain, leaving authorities baffled.
Car Crashes into Sydney Landmark
Police were called to the scene at the park in the city's central business district around 4am on Wednesday to find the vehicle lodged in the Archibald Fountain. According to reports, the car drove into the park before mounting the fountain.
Footage from the scene suggests the car reversed into a statue depicting the Greek myth of Theseus slaying the Minotaur. The statue suffered only minimal damage, while the car was towed away with its rear window shattered.
The driver, a 21-year-old French national, was unharmed and was taken to nearby St Vincent's Hospital for mandatory testing. Investigations into the incident are ongoing, and police have urged anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers.
