Mexican Batman Vigilante Hunted by Police

Local police in Lagos de Moreno, Jalisco, Mexico, are hunting a vigilante dubbed 'Mexican Batman' after he chased alleged motorcycle thieves and taped them to poles. The mysterious local has taken justice into his own hands following a surge in motorbike thefts in the city.

Vigilante's Methods

Since the first reported attack on June 13, the unknown assailant has targeted at least five alleged motorcycle thieves, according to The Sun. The suspected thieves were found beaten and bruised, duct-taped to lamp posts, and covered in drawn markings. Many had 'ratero' (Spanish for thief) scribbled on their faces, along with moustaches and cat whiskers.

Social Media Sensation

Images of the vigilante's work have flooded social media, with locals dubbing him 'Mexican Batman' or the 'Batman of Lagos de Moreno'. The vigilante often leaves the motorcycles nearby with a pink sign above the alleged thieves' heads detailing the allegations against them.

Police Investigation

Despite online admiration, police have launched an investigation. State Security Secretary Juan Pablo Hernández stated that the five men are being treated as victims. Local media reports that police have identified two vehicles believed to be connected to the attacks, but no suspects have been named. All the men were cut down from the poles and treated for injuries; one was left bloodied and bruised. It is unclear if any of the five men have been investigated over the alleged thefts.
