The water polo community gathered at Bondi Beach on Saturday to pay tribute to police officer Scott Dyson, who was critically wounded in a terror attack in Sydney last month. The attack, carried out by father Sajid and son Naveed Akram, claimed 15 lives and injured 40 others.
Dyson, 25, remains in hospital but is making significant progress. His mother Heather said, “He’s doing remarkable. He’s on the improve. They’ve got him up and walking little steps.” His father Roger added that Dyson’s shoulder will be operated on in a few weeks.
The Drummoyne Devils, Dyson’s current club, organized the swim at Bondi Beach to show solidarity. Heather and Roger Dyson expressed their gratitude: “Such a great turnout. Couldn’t believe it. Very overwhelming. We just want to thank everybody for all their support.”
Dyson watched the tribute via a live stream from his hospital bed. A police legacy appeal has raised over $650,000 for the young officer, who recently discovered he is to become a father.
