Australian Paralympic Medallist Nicholas Hum Dies at 32

Australian athletics is mourning the loss of Paralympic bronze medallist Nicholas Hum, who has died at the age of 32. Hum, who held the Australian record in the T20 long jump, competed at three Paralympic Games, most recently in Paris, and retired from sport in November last year.

Hum won bronze at the 2021 Tokyo Paralympics and held the Australian record in the T20 long jump at 7.39 metres. He is survived by his wife, Mairead, and their three children, William, Holly and Paige.

Australian Athletics CEO Simon Hollingsworth paid tribute, saying: 'Nick was a much-loved member of our community and his loss is deeply felt. He was respected not only for his commitment to his sport but for the way he showed up for those around him.'

Paralympics Australia chief Cameron Murray also expressed condolences, stating: 'As an Australian Paralympian 989, Nick will be remembered for far more than just medals and results. He was an outstanding Paralympian and a cherished member of our mob.'

Australian Athletics said it would work with Hum's family to provide support and requested that their privacy be respected during this time. The funeral is currently being arranged, and all those touched by Hum are welcome to attend.
